Cranberry, Cherry & Walnut Chutney
Serving Size: Yields: 16 -¼ cup servings
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1/2 cup sweet red wine, like Brennan’s Sweet Red or Carlson Sweet Baby Red
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 cup dried tart cherries
12 ounces fresh cranberries
2/3 cup chopped walnuts, toasted
1/2 teaspoon grated orange zest
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
orange zest strips (optional)

Of course, this is great with turkey, but it's also wonderful with roast chicken, pork tenderloin or ham.
Combine first 4 ingredients in medium saucepan; bring to a boil. Add cherries, and cook 1 minute. Stir in cranberries; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, simmer 10 minutes or until cranberries pop. Remove from heat. Stir in walnuts, grated zest, and extract. Garnish with orange zest strips, if desired. Cover and chill.
