Super Sweet and Seedless
Did you know that watermelons are Heart Healthy and certified by the American Heart Association? It's true: For healthy people over the age of 2, watermelon is the lycopene leader among fresh fruits and vegetables. Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that may help lessen the risk of cancer, heart disease, and other health challenges.
But watermelons aren't just for picnics anymore! Since it's part of the cucumber family, every part of the watermelon is edible- even the rinds! Serve watermelon at room temperature, or cut up a whole watermelon and then put it into the refrigerator. (Watermelons are one of the few melons that have a stronger flavor when cold.)
Another option: Cube it into pieces and serve it in a fruit salad to delight your family for your next picnic!
When selecting a watermelon, start by looking for firm and symmetrical fruit with no scratches, cuts, or dents. The bottom of the fruit should be slightly yellow and the entire rind should have an overall sheen. Lift it up and feel how heavy the watermelon feels. If it feels heavy for its size, it's a keeper. (Watermelons should be 92% water). If you have any questions, just ask a Brennan's produce expert. They can help you find the perfect watermelon!
