Sweet-And-Sour Red Cabbage

Serving Size:Serves 6


  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
  • 12 lb (about 12 cups) red cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 6 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 sweet onion, peeled & sliced
  • 1/2 apple, like Granny Smith, peeled and chopped
  • 2/3 cup Brennan's Balsamic Vinegar
  • to taste Salt and peper



Great with grilled pork chops and mashed potatoes.


Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add cabbage and sauté until slightly wilted, about 5 minutes. Add sugar; toss to coat evenly. Add vinegar. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer until cabbage is tender, stirring often, about 30 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
